Poor Bear

Bad news from the veterinary. Bear is crook. Thankfully we can rebuild him, its structural failure not anything sinister like a tumour, but without surgery Bears days walking are limited. Even though dogs have three legs and a spare, big dogs like Bear need all four to keep going. Whats happened is that a ligament in his knee has snapped and a four figure sum will put it right. Once again we are lucky that our vet has performed the necessary op 100's of times and they are 90% successful, and 100% of dogs benefit from whats done. So next Wednesday Bears going under again and will wake up with a reconstructed knee. All we have to do then is keep him still for six weeks. Its not like theres a Berner pup he would want to play with, or 3 litter mates to chase, or his mum and dad to go for walks with, or uncle Reuben to chase squirrels with. Nah. Its gonna be a breeze!

Poor lad

Bears behind again. So much so we took him to the vet where we were told that hes in a bit of bother back leg wise. Seems like his crutia ligament has gone funny on the back drivers side. Big dose of anti inflammatory and hes perkier (bouncing like Tigger in the kitchen in other words) but still crook. So tomorrow he's going back to be sedated, x rayed and then we discuss how to rebuild him.

Casualty

Not sure why, might be weather slippy underfoot related but two of the magnificent 7 plus a small one, have very pronounced limps. Bear, above, came back from his late afternoon constitutional limping on the rear drivers side while Spotty is holding up his front passenger side after going a box of dirt clearing a fence in the pig pen.

Reuben and Bliss have finally done it, properly (she nearly killed him poor lad, by biting him and then nearly twisting it off, how he managed to walk properly after that yet alone have the ability to wag his tail is beyond me) so if she is able to have pups they will be due mid January 2013. Don't hold your breath, we aren't, shes had two full phantom pregnancies so far. Wait and see.

Growing pains

 Ripley is getting bigger so is getting into mischief.

Back to life

The Budmeister had a hard day yesterday, knocked out by the vet to have his hips and elbows scored. The good news is that all seems well with them and all being well he will be making contributions to the Berner gene pool and furthering the Dolyhir clan in the Northern Hemisphere. The other good news is that he was able to help his mum with the housework today, here he is rearranging the soft furnishings.

Bear being the faithful Bernese type was with me every step of the way up,and down the Bonsai Mountain. Usually one step behind. Made me smile thinking I had a Bear behind.

Baby Buddy

the handsome lad now weighs 6.12 kg or 216 ounces. A mere slip of a lad compared to Reuby (Jess) who is almost the same weight as a baby elephant weighing in at 7.4 kg or 262 oz.

Weighty matters

It was odd not having Team GB to weigh yesterday, it being their 8 week birthday. Here's Ripley putting on weight. Forever homes have sent the scores in and as soon as the official tally is compiled they will be posted.

 Hurry up Harry come on! This is a blurry snap of Harry, class of 2010, others in the class are Biffer (often on his hols here) Heidi, Nessa (Isle of Man contingent) and Bella (lovely Bella who is often found at HQ digging the garden!) Harry came for the best part of the weekend and as we were so busy he only appeared on one picture!

I am in disguise! Reba on the other paw featured in many pictures as team GB dispersed, she was spotted incognito by the pawperazzi (I know I know) trying to get five minutes peace.

I popped in to see Alfie today, he looks like he has settled in, hes grown as well!

Sausages and Flashbacks!

 W all had our different ways of getting ready for the departure of Team GB last Saturday, Reba, the matriarch of the Dolyhir Clan, sneaked into the kitchen where the sausages were being cooked for the closing ceremony butties and helped herself to half of them in the pan on the stove as they sizzled. A great trick, not only did she manage not to burn herself but she ensured the remaining sausages were destined to be dog treats as they had been bitten in half.

 So here we have Adam and Lucy who are now proud owners of Dolyhir Beautiful Game, his pet name is Buddy and they are all very happy.

 While here we have Kya, Ash and Lorraine with Dolyhir Alfie Blue, his pet name is Alfie, the only name all could agree on! Alfie now lives a few miles from HQ and so I get to see him at least once a week!

After all the fun and games Reba, or Lostwithiel Sherbet Lemon, decided to celebrate. Her work finished she deserved a rest. No more sausages though!

Ripley is no the only one from Team GB left of Rock HQ. Time doesn't allow for a full account of the closing ceremony so that will wait until tomorrows posting. Meanwhile here is a pic of Riply contemplating a life on her own. Except for Reba, Reuben, Rocky, Spotty, Bear, Bliss, WooZah, and then the non Berners Poppy, Preston and Cartoon Dog Missy, and visiting Berners like Harry who is here at the moment.
