Hounds for Heros

Still not had time to write up properly the 1st Annual Dolyhir Bernese Mountain Dog treasure hunt, even less time to collate the photos from several cameras and from different dog owners (I didn't take as many as planned as I was a bit busy) but until I do get a chance to report in full I would just like to say a big thank you to all the Berner owners who turned out to support the event. There were at various times 18 or so Bernese Mountain Dogs here at HQ, plus a collie (one of our previous rescues) and a German Shepherd Dog.
Most of the Berners here were related to this handsome chap, the Rockmeister, those that were not related were girlfriends (player!) and a lovely Great Swiss, who shares the ancestry of the Berner but is a short haired bigger version, same colouring, lovely temperament.
All the dogs and most of the owners completed the treasure hunt, the winners got a prizes supplied by our kind sponsors Wagg Dog Foods, so thanks to Dalton their dog for making that happen.
In all it was a very successful day, we raised a substantial amount for charity, the grand total is yet to be realised with other donations coming in. In all it was hard work but worth doing and we look forward to the next one same sort of time in 2013. More will follow on this blog, lots more pics of the day but meantime here is a big thank you to our sponsors and helpers on the day.

THANK YOU

I did it my way

The Dolyhir Clan prepared for tomorrows treasure hunt in different ways. Spotty conserved his energy ready for the charge around the trail searching for clues.
Dotty WooZah tried to get some of the mud off her coat by playing in the straw.
Reuben? Well he went for a wallow with the pigs!

Berner Banzai!

Nessa, from the Isle of Man in a Berner Banzai pose!

Nessa wont be here 10.6.12, we were hoping she would be, neither will Nala as Nala is about to give birth!! Good luck Nala!

Between little and none

How helpful are Berners when you are trying to tidy a garden ravaged by goats?
Well as WooZah dug her very own hole to sit in, between little and none!

Tour guide

Rocky showing guests around Rock HQ. Hopefully next Sunday there will be more visitors, more Berners (there are 9 here at the moment) and less rain. A lot less rain.

 we had company
some very soggy doggies!

Berner Banzai!!!!

This is Buddy doing a Berner Banzai! Hopefully we will see him at the treasure hunt on the 10 June.

If your dog does a Berner Banzai send us the pic so we can put it in our Banzai gallery!

So sad

This is Montana, or Aunty Montana as the clan call her as she is our foster berner, been living with the clan on and off for over two years. A lovely girl with a fab temperament,if a bit barky at times. It was her bark that was the first sign that all was not well, it went high pitched and she wretched after eating. Nothing to worry about said vets, blood tests came back clear, bark almost returned to usual pitch, but she was not right. Slower than usual we hoped this was due to her bad hip score, but she started absenting herself from circuits of the bonsai mountain, sneaking off when no one was looking. The weight loss was a worry, so today she went back to vet, we knew it would be bad, it is, cancer in her thorax, inoperable, six weeks or so to live. We all know Berners are prone to cancers. Its such a shame for such lovely dogs. The clan at Rock HQ is a bit subdued today.
