Its a scam
Berners like this one are hard to find, and when you do find one they are not going to be cheap. So when we vet our prospective new owners we ask lots of questions to make sure they are going to good people who will care for them, not just people who can afford the cost of the dog. Thankfully both of our litters have gone to or about to go to great homes and we are kept informed as to how the pups are doing.
During our chats with people we have been alerted to a scam that's going around regarding Bernese Mountain Dogs and the Internet, and today we were contacted by one such scam merchant. Unfortunately I cant cut and paste the email over to this blog page but its along the lines of two Berner pups for sale due to the owner being dead and they are in Kirkwall, only £200 each please send us your details. The English is that of a seven year old, for example, "So we want them given out to a lovely caring home where they can be treated as such and kept updated on a monthly progress"
Needless to say we have not fallen for this, but it would seem from the people we have spoken to some have, one person on our waiting list has already wired a thousand pounds to a bank account and did not get a puppy.
So be warned, and never ever buy a puppy unless you go and see it, see its mother, better still its father as well, its home, the people you are buying it from and ask lots of questions. The hip and elbow scores should be asked for and check on the Kennel club register to see what the scores are for the grandparents as well. These are fantastic dogs so its worth the effort it takes to find a good breeder to make sure you get what you want, a healthy happy puppy.
