 Rocky stowed away on board Miranda so he could stand guard over our afternoon on the beach.

and as soon as he could he bolted for dry land!

 Berners are not blessed with brains and Alfie pictured here on the left

 and here with his companion Spot has a few less brain cells than most

having eaten some socks which got all tangled inside his inside and had to be surgically removed. He managed to pass one after a lot of trouble which alerted his owner to the problem but he was very poorly by the time he got to the vet.
He was a very lucky pup to have survived this, a lovely Berner Berner lad called Drogba, from  Rocky and Sally's litter died after swallowing a rope chewy.
This morning we saw one of ours, Elf, pooh out a plastic bag, she must have robbed the bin. So Berner owners beware. Large dogs, large appetites but small brains.

 It was a fantastic day and very hot

 so Sarah, a very hot dog

 found a good way of cooling off

until they all got back to HQ where shade, cool stones and big bowls of fresh spring water were on hand.

Here's Clare Villar (shes the one in the white top) presenting me with a painting we had commissioned of Reuben and Ripley. It is fantastic and she has captured our pets perfectly and in incredible detail. Clare does take commissions from all over the country so if anyone wants a perfect picture of their beloved pooch then contact us and I will send her details to you.

How to keep 22 Bernese Mountain Dogs happy!

Those that attended and those of you who know us and our dogs will know that we recommend Wagg as a dog food (our rabbits also get Wagg, not dog food though, but having said that the rampaging Ryelands are not averse to muscling in and getting a few gobfulls of Wagg from the dog bowls) and that when a pup leaves us they leave with a nice big bag of Wagg.
Well the nice people at Wagg sent us a sack of goodies for the treasure hunt for the second year running and this all helped raise money for Hounds for Hero's they were used as prizes for the treasure hunt, raffle or dog awards. So above we have a collage of Wagg prizegivings and apologies for any mistakes but I think we have Danny getting a bag for dog who looks most like Jon Bon Jovi, Lorraine for dog with the Waggiest tail (see what I did there?) Jenny with Brooke for being the only owner who got the right score for the treasure trail and walking the furthest and bottom right is Liz with Fizz who got the award for who travelled the furthest to get here, about 200 miles!
So a big thank you to all who atended and an extra big thank you to Wagg for providing such generous prizes, for supporting us in our fund raising and for making a dog food that our Berners thrive on!

Perfect 10

 The 2nd annual Dolyhir Bernese Mountain Dog Treasure Hunt took place today. We nearly got all of the class of 2009 together for a family photograph, here's what we managed after several frustrating minutes. We also got most of Team BB 2012, pics will follow, as will dozens of pics of the fun day had by all.
